On the tongue label, Jordan’s “Black Cat” logo is most evident, replacing the traditional branding, drawn in an almost rubber hose style, with Jordan’s collegiate banner below. The character reappears on the insole, ready to pounce on some more traditional Jumpman and basketball logos.

While the influence and resulting resale prices of the “Black Cat” Jordan 4 and Jordan 3 led us to expect a similarly monochromatic treatment here, this Jordan 1 Low opts for a slightly twisted grayscale, placing a smoky gray hue between solid black at either end, coating the heel cup, tongue, and outsole. In addition to the tonal difference, the shoe also forgoes the alligator leather that has inspired many luxury comparisons. Instead, the matte material takes over a quarter of the panels, while tumbled leather appears on the forefoot and heel cup.
